Richardson has a population of 94,550. New homes on average
sell for about $190,000. Until the 1950s, Richardson was a rural community
of about 1,300 people when several events changed the town forever.
Collins Radio Company relocated to Richardson and Texas Instruments
set up shop just south of the city limits. More businesses located in
Richardson over the years, creating the "Telecom Corridor,"
the nation's second-largest concentration of telecommunications companies.
Richardson has more than 3,600 businesses, including 500 high-tech firms.
Richardson citizens have a high quality of life with a large public
library, a symphony orchestra and other cultural groups, numerous acres
of parks and public recreation facilities, major medical centers, a
variety of housing choices and well-planned streets and expressways.
Numerous retail and service outlets serve the area including Richardson
Square Mall, and nearby Prestonwood and Valley View Malls. The Richardson
Independent School District has been recognized as one of the top 25
school districts in the nation, and is also home to the University of
Texas at Dallas.
